Mohamed Salah appeared to mock the
decision to name Egypt as the best football federation at Tuesday night's
Confederation of African Football awards in Cairo. The Liverpool star skipped
the awards ceremony in his homeland, where Reds teammate Sadio Mane pipped him
to be named Africa's Player of the Year for 2019.
Instead of being in the Egyptian
capital, Salah was back on Merseyside training with the rest of his Liverpool
teammates ahead of Saturday's Premier
League visit to Tottenham Hotspur. Salah has been at loggerheads
with the Egyptian FA over various issues in the last couple of years, dating back
to what he saw as unprofessional goings-on in the Egypt camp at the 2018 World
Cup in Russia.
The forward was pictured with the
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in the Egypt camp during the tournament, but
later claimed he was forced to do so and wasn't happy to be associated with
someone possessing Kadyrov's human rights record.
Salah has also been known to be
frustrated with some of the Egyptian FA's views on sponsorship and has
regularly clashed with heads of football in the country.
Salah shares his daughter to his
Instagram Story
But on his Instagram Story on Tuesday
night, Salah uploaded a picture of his daughter Makka laughing along with the
words "and the award for best federation goes to..."
Salah was criticized for his decision
not to attend the awards ceremony, with some claiming that he was simply doing
so out of spite after missing out on the main award to Mane. But his ongoing
feud with his country's FA is more likely to be the reason, and his post backed
up those claims.
