difficult task over the next few years as they’ll need to replace Van Dijk.

ever be as good as Van Dijk. As with any elite player, his replacement will
almost certainly be weaker than him. But Gomez can fill the inevitable void in
Liverpool’s style.
The hope is that the Englishman,
still only 22, will develop in the more traditional areas of a defender. He’s
hardly lacking but he’s not quite at the elite level yet, sometimes lacking
consistency.
But give him game time and a few more
years and there’s no reason Gomez won’t be at the top. He may never quite be
Van Dijk, but he should be the ablest replacement for Liverpool’s defensive
talisman.
