Man Utd’s inconsistent
Premier League campaign took another twist with a draw against Everton. Ole
Gunnar Solskjaer’s side continued their sloppy form against teams in the bottom
half of the table in the clash at Old Trafford.
It is becoming increasingly
evident that you just do not know what you are going to get from this current
Manchester United side. Football

There are going to
massive wins in the big matches, but there is also going to be a disappointment
along the way against teams that set up to frustrate. The match against Duncan
Ferguson’s reinvigorated Everton proved to be Manchester United’s latest
stumbling block.
We struggled to break
the visitors down and shift the ball quickly enough to pull them out of
position, a lot of passing was either backward or sideways it was too safe.
There were not too
many standout performers in a match that lacked quality but here are
the two players that struggled to impose themselves on the match.
Jesse
Lingard
United’s number 14 has
shown signs of getting back to his best form in recent weeks, but his
performance against the Toffees was a backward step. Lingard had a glorious
chance to open the scoring in the opening minute but he pulled his shot wide
after the ball fell to him in the penalty area.
It was a difficult
afternoon for Lingard, who gave away too many cheap free-kicks and allowed
Everton to regroup and waste time.
Celebrating his 27th
birthday, Lingard should be entering his peak years, he is no longer that
youngster that should be given time to develop and realize his potential. Lingard
was the man sacrificed for United’s goalscorer Mason Greenwood when his team
was trailing in the 65th minute.
With Greenwood knocking
on the door for Premier League
starts, Lingard could be the man to make way for United’s talented academy
prodigy.
There were chants of
There is only one Jesse Lingard ringing around the Theatre of Dreams as fans
showed their support to him after he went public with the difficult family
situation he is currently facing. This was a performance that again
highlighted the growing need for a world class midfield orchestra.
On the same day Kevin
de Bruyne tormented Arsenal by scoring 2 goals and laying on an assist, that’s
the caliber of player, Manchester United need to create chances out of nothing
and be the difference in the tight matches.
Anthony
Martial
It makes rather grim
viewing for Man Utd’s number 9 that it is back-to-back matches that he has
found himself featuring on our worst player list.
The mercurial Frenchman
can be devastating and tear teams apart, but he can also swan around on the
pitch and look like he has no care in the world about the outcome of the match.
With the Erling Haaland
rumors continuing to gather momentum, Martial needs to start adding
consistency to his game otherwise he may find himself back on the fringes of
the team.
It is not just external
pressure which Martial should be worried about Greenwood is chomping at the bit
for a run of Premier League starts. The 24-year-old feeds off quick one and two
touch interplay in tight areas and can hold the ball up at times, but he needs
to offer more.
It is hard for Martial
when he has not got a world-class number 10 behind him who can create ample
chances. That has to be Solskjaer’s focus adding more quality and artistry
behind Martial could give the team a new dimension, but that is when the
scrutiny of the Frenchman’s displays will increase.
