Premier League: Frank Lampard wants Newcastle hero Shay Given as coach at Chelsea

Shay Given is a hero from his time at Newcastle but he is currently in demand with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard determined to add him to his coaching staff.

Given is currently the goalkeeping coach at Derby after agreeing to stay on with new manager Philipp Cocu after Lampard’s departure for London. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Premier League Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

But Lampard is said to be concerned over the form of Kepa Arrizabalaga and believes the former Toon keeper is the perfect man to get the best out of their stopper who cost a world-record fee for the position.

Given made 445 appearances for Newcastle between 1997 and 2009 keeping 123 clean sheets during that time and must go down as one of the club’s greatest bargain signings with him costing a mere £2 million.

Lampard had wanted to take Given to Stamford Bridge with him when he took the manager’s job there but the Chelsea hierarchy was keen to give the goalkeeping coach role to Henrique Hilario instead.

So Given stayed at Derby but due to the worries over Chelsea’s star keeper, Lampard is desperate to get the Irish legend on board with him.

Shay Given kept Steve Harper out of the Newcastle side for many years

During his time at Newcastle Given constantly kept Steve Harper out of the side and it was not until the former left St James’ Park that the later got his opportunity to be the number one keeper at the club.

The pair was always great friends however and Harper’s loyalty to the club meant he was happy to play understudy for much of his career.

If Given was to join the Chelsea staff, it would see both Newcastle icons plying their coaching trade at Premier League clubs with Harper currently the academy goalkeeping coach with the Magpies.

Derby would presumably be reluctant to allow Given to leave and it remains to be seen how much the Championship club would want in compensation for him.

It is a shame that there is not a role for Given to fill at Newcastle which could reunite two of the best goalkeepers we have had at the club in recent times.
