Russian football team ranked
38th in FIFA world rankings in February and the
Russian Sports Minister Oleg
Matytsin said he hopes fans and supporters of the national football team will
be delighted with the team's results at the 2020 UEFA European Cup this summer.

The Sports Ministry of Russia
plays a positive role in the programs about the development of football on the land
of Russia, in the organization of large-scale international projects as well as

government policy and the activities of public organizations on behalf of the

football team was ranked 38th in the world ranking of the governing body of
world football, FIFA, published every two months.
The Russian national football
team played 10 international matches last year and they all qualified for the
2020 UEFA European Cup. In group B of Euro Cup 2020 Russia will face Belgium,
Finland, and Denmark.

In March, Russia lost to
Belgium 1-3 and defeated Kazakhstan 4-0; in June, Russia defeated San Marino
and Cyprus (9-0 and 1-0 respectively); in September, the team routed Kazakhstan
(1-0) and Scotland (2-1); in October, Russian footballers whitewashed Scotland
4-0 and then beat Cyprus 5-0.
Playing two international
matches in November, the Russian team lost to Belgium 1-4 at home and then
enjoyed a confident away victory 5-0 against San Marino.
The 2020 European Cup matches
will take place in stadiums in 12 different cities across Europe, namely in
London (England), Munich (Germany), Rome (Italy), Baku (Azerbaijan), Saint
Petersburg (Russia), Bucharest (Romania), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Dublin
(Ireland), Bilbao (Spain), Budapest (Hungary), Glasgow (Scotland) and
Copenhagen (Denmark) between June 12 and July 12, 2020.
The second-largest city in
Russia, Saint Petersburg, has been awarded the right to host three group stage
matches and one of the quarterfinals of the 2020 UEFA Cup.
The newly built football
arena in Saint Petersburg hosted the opening and final matches of the 2017 FIFA
Confederations Cup and was also one of the 12 stadiums in the country hosting
the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches.
The final draw for the 2020
UEFA Cup took place on 30 November 2019 in the Romanian capital of Bucharest.
Twenty-four national football teams, which have completed the qualifying round,
have been divided into six groups of four teams each. Russia has been placed in
Group B and will face Belgium (in Saint Petersburg on June 13), Finland (in
Saint Petersburg on June 17) and Denmark (in Copenhagen on June 22).
The decision to organize the
Euro Cup 2020, which is celebrating its 60th birthday this year, in various
European countries instead of one or two organizing countries, was taken at the
meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Lausanne, in Switzerland, December
6, 2012.
