The Mascot for World Cup 2010 in South Africa was Anounced. It Will be a Leopard Named Zakumi

The mascot for the 2010 Football Championship in South Africa will be a leopard called Zakumi. The name comes from the abbreviature ZA, which defines South Africa and the word KUMI which stands for 10 - the number of languages in the continent of Africa.
As Danny Jordaan explained, the mascot “birth year” is the same year as the South Africa’s democracy “birth date”. According to the CEO of the local organising committee for 2010 FIFA World Cup, Zakumi is a proud South African citizen and an excellent ambassador for the first World Football Championship that will be held in Africa. Zakumi is young, vigorous, smart and ambitious, and is a real inspiration for the football fans across the world. Creator of the nice mascot’s design is Andries Odendaal from Cape Town, and Zakumi's costume was made up by Cora Simpson of Cora's Costumes in Boksburg.
